New Edition Of Controversial Peters Map Published

ODT Inc. announced today that it has released a new edition of the "Peters Map." Originally published in 1974 by Arno Peters, the map abandoned the traditional Mercator projection in favor of accurate sizes and proportions of countries. When first issued, Mr. Peters stated his "equal area" map projection to be "the map for our time." Peters argued that his map was "fair to all peoples," because it eliminated what he termed biases and distortions of the traditional Mercator projection maps.

The map image itself is unchanged, but the new version features thumbnail images of other equal area maps as well as text that explains other map projections.
