Yet More Indian Concerns Over Google Earth
It appears India is still upset with Google Earth.
From the Times of India:
The Government told the Rajya Sabha that efforts were being made to mask certain areas of high resolution imagery from the Google Earth website that has caused security concerns in the country. The Rajya Sabha or "House of States" is the upper house of the parliament of India, similar to the U.S. Senate. The whole thing shows the futility of trying to regulate information in the digital age. Governments move so slowing that by the time they get around to passing any laws, it has basically become a moot point..
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Defence Ministry were in touch with concerned agencies to see if certain areas can be masked from the website.
In this regard, work was going on between the concerned Ministries to make it low resolution imagery in certain areas of the website, the Minister said.
